About This Site

My name is Elton Billings, and this is my web site. The site exists simply to share a few ideas on web management and user experience topics that might be of interest to others.

I have worked in the high tech field for some time. I've held a variety of positions, such as information architect, solutions architect, manager of web strategy, information engineer, webmaster, web development manager, systems admin, network admin, technical services manager and technical instructor.

I have spent the last few years improving user experience for complex web sites, designing web applications, doing usability testing, defining business strategies for the web, and figuring out how to use technology to help people access and understand information.

I started this site to simply have a place to make information available following conference presentations. Otherwise, I'd return from a conference and spend a couple of hours sorting through notes on the back of business cards to send folks copies of slides. It just seemed a lot simpler to post the slides on the web for easier access.

Sometimes I notice a trend, solve the same problem in multiple contexts, or just have an idea that seems worth sharing. When this happens, I write a short essay and post it to the site.

The intent of the site is not to provide empirical answers, technical advice, or complete solutions to specific business problems. Plenty of web sites (and companies) already do that. Some are even good at it. I hope you find the site worthwhile. Feedback, complaints, questions, requests, opposing viewpoints, and insightful information are always welcome.
